Their lives matter!
We hope this update finds you well in spite of all the scary news and challenges in our world! We fervently hope you will remember those on the ground helping the animals day in and out.

Challenging times continue for India’s community dogs.
We are working tirelessly to fund spay, neuter, and vaccination — protecting these innocent beings from cruelty against dog haters and ensuring peaceful coexistence with people. This ongoing effort supports the dedicated dog feeders and animal lovers across India who care for them every day.
But there’s also some good news! Delhi has officially notified a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for street dog management — a landmark step toward humane, lawful, and science-based solutions for both community dogs and citizens.
This progressive framework brings compassion, safety, and accountability together — ensuring that community dogs are treated with dignity while reducing conflict and safeguarding public health.

World Rabies Day recently passed, drawing attention to a preventable crisis that claims over 20,000 lives each year in India—more than any other country in the world.
This tragedy can be stopped through consistent and widespread vaccination programmes.
Our partners recognise that rabies prevention is not separate from population control—it’s a core part of it. Every street dog sterilised also receives an anti-rabies vaccine, protecting both animal and human communities.
The recent emphasis by India’s Supreme Court on Animal Birth Control programmes reinforces what we know is that funding our grantees for sterilization and vaccination. They are on the front lines, leading the fight against this deadly but preventable disease.

September brought unprecedented turmoil to Nepal.
The month began with a government-imposed social media ban, followed by Gen Z–led anti-corruption protests. These quickly escalated into widespread unrest, violence, and looting, ultimately toppling the government. An interim administration is now in place, tasked with holding elections within six months.
Amid the chaos, countless animals were abandoned, injured, or killed as fires engulfed homes and public buildings.
Though the situation is stabilizing, uncertainty remains. The economy is fragile and costs are rising for food, medicine, and veterinary supplies.
Thanks to our donors, we’ve been able to continue to fund lifesaving work without interruption. While young people fight for justice, the groups we support are working to save the innocent animals caught in the crossfire — but they can’t do it alone.

Freed from the yoke of labor and the threat of slaughter, these devoted bulls now live out their days in peace at our grantee: Karuna Society for Animals and Nature.

Through our Varanasi for Animals project, we make sure that every animal in need gets the care and compassion they deserve!

We are also spreading kindness to all animals, and for compassionate ways to engage with street and community animals through education in the schools!
