Compassion in action: our 2024 grants
Dear friend of India and Nepal’s animals: We hope this update finds you well!
Here is a sweet glimpse of what your donations can do and are doing where we are honored to have the opportunity to help in India and Nepal. It means the world to these people to have a safe and effective place to bring in their “streeties” for the best and most loving care!

Now temperatures are way up to over 100 F until monsoon season across the subcontinent! This appeal is on behalf of our grantee Karuna Society for Animals and Nature with hundreds of rescued cows! Learn more about India’s sacred cows here.
In India, where cows are revered and considered sacred by the majority Hindu population, the situation surrounding their protection is complex. Legally, cow slaughter is banned in all but two of India’s 29 states, with exceptions made in areas where non-Hindu populations consume meat. Similarly, buffaloes, crucial for dairy production, are protected from slaughter in most states. However, these laws are often bypassed, as spent cows and buffaloes, along with “surplus” male calves, are frequently inhumanely transported to regions or countries (like Nepal) where slaughter is permitted.
By choosing vegan options and supporting initiatives that advocate for reform in dairy production, you can contribute to a more compassionate and sustainable future.
Beyond rescue and rehabilitation, our Help Animals India funded groups plant seeds of compassion through vital educational outreach. In classrooms and in the country schools and on the street for the general public, they’re shaping a kinder future by teaching how to safely interact with street animals, recognize signs of distress, and develop empathy for all creatures.
These engaging sessions transform young minds, creating the next generation of animal advocates. Meanwhile, the community workshops educate the general public about responsible pet ownership, the importance of sterilization, and how to peacefully coexist with street animals.
By addressing misconceptions and spreading awareness, our outreach creates lasting change - preventing animal suffering before it begins. These educational initiatives complement their rescue work, tackling the root causes of animal welfare issues.
Your support helps build a more compassionate community, one classroom and neighborhood at a time.

In the city schools.

And in the country schools.

Day in and out, our groups are doing the best for the animals with spay/neuter/vaccinations, rescue, treatment and providing water for all the street animals!
As our dedicated team member Ritika Singh Aashi writes and poses with her bestie above: Without homes, but never without hope - the street dogs of Varanasi exemplify loyalty and love despite challenging lives. Through Help Animals India’s project, Varanasi for Animals (VFA), these remarkable beings receive the essentials they deserve: food, medical care, and protection.
Every day, VFA’s dedicated team works tirelessly to create a more compassionate environment for these gentle souls. From emergency medical interventions to regular feeding programs, their commitment ensures no street dog faces hardship alone.
These dogs don’t ask for luxury - just kindness, respect, and basic necessities. Their capacity for gratitude reminds us that compassion creates powerful connections.
Join us in supporting these resilient street dogs and the team working to improve their lives.

The heat is on, support our groups during this challenging summer with temps already up! Above from our grantee “Straw India.”
