Women and sanctuaries! Cats, cows, camels and dogs oh my!

March 13, 2018

We would like to dedicate this newsletter to two very special women who have dedicated their lives to India's animals!

That we can play some part in helping their compassionate activities brings us much joy and we have YOU to thank for participating with us!

While many of us help animals as we can, these special ladies have devoted decades of their lives to this only and the results show.

People for Animals Chennai continues to do outstanding work to rescue cows and buffalos from slaughter, and cats from the horrific cat meat trade. They also provide a life-long home to injured street dogs, abandoned working equines, goats rescued from slaughter, and any other needy animal who crosses their path.

Thanks to your support, we've provided PFA Chennai with a new, much-needed animal ambulance to rescued animals from the street, as well as food for the shelter animals. Dr. Shiranee Pereira, the director, has also been instrumental against animal testing throughout India.

This sweet video is a rare opportunity to see Dr. Shiranee at her work in the Red Hills Shelter, a shelter that is free of chains and cages. A beautiful surprise bringing much joy is that Dr. Shiranee has been selected for India's 21st Mahaveer Award for Non-Violence and Vegetarianism.

For this special International Women's time  we are thrilled to profile Dr. Shiranee Periera (left) and Ms. Clementien Pauws (right) for their outstanding dedication to animals and much-deserved prestigious awards.

Karuna Society For Animals and Nature is inspiring us by building a new 18-acre wildlife rescue center. Think of the impact it will make for generations, as there is no other protection for these wild or domestic animals in this part of South India. And furthermore, Karuna grows organic produce for local sales and to provide an income for the shelters.

Ms. Clementien Pauws sacrificed a very comfortable retirement in her native Holland to come to India and build a future for the animals and the people who love them. On this International Women's Day, Clementien was just presented by the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar Award by the Hon. President of India.

Both PFA Chennai and Karuna Society shelters house animals who have nowhere else to go, including bears, monkeys, dogs, cats, cows, buffaloes, camels, horses, and more! So many animals, particularly disabled animals, need more love and support. Our hearts break to see their plight, but the shelters we support provide a ray of hope, as the animals receive lifetime care.

Grants to groups India and Nepal go on year round, and your very recent donations are now funding rescues and the spaying/neutering of cats and dogs in Kathmandu (Animal Nepal, Catmandu Lovers, Community Dog Welfare); saving animals from slaughter and offering lifetime refuge for camels and donkeys in Rajasthan (PFA Sirohi); and rescuing all types of animals through our brand new partner RESQ in Pune (also run by women!). Browse a list of all of our current beneficiaries here.

And please consider a monthly recurring online donation. This helps us to plan our year-long project, knowing the animals can count on your help.

With love from Help Animals India, and deepest appreciation from all of the animals and the people who serve them – thank you and many wishes for your success in your worthy activities to bring happiness for all!
