Update on the fight to protect dog, and more!
We hope this update finds you well in spite of all the scary news and challenges in our world! We fervently hope you will remember those on the ground helping the animals day in and out.
The battle to protect and help the community dogs continues with demonstrations all across India by dog lovers and caretakers! Recently another order came through putting dogs at risk in public places but where do they all go?
🐶 These dogs were born in India and that is their home. Removing them from familiar streets to overcrowded shelters risks their health, safety, and survival.
What's needed isn't removal. It's proper ABC implementation, designated feeding zones managed responsibly, public education about coexisting with street animals, and significant investment in shelter infrastructure if impoundment is truly the goal. The court's order gives authorities eight weeks. That's not enough time to build the facilities required to house thousands of dogs humanely.
Streeties who have been spay/neuter/vaccinated are cared for by Ritika Singh Aashi of our Varanasi for Animals Project!
A Times of India poll found that 85% of respondents are not affected by stray dogs, 83% do not see them as a safety problem, and 86% identify as dog lovers.
The better way is: Animal Birth Control (ABC). Vaccinate. Sterilize. Release. This method has been proven effective both in India and globally. Not only does it humanely reduce stray populations over time, it also creates healthier, more manageable dog communities. NGOs supported by Help Animals India and other grassroots movements are already making this model work across the country.
It’s humane. It works. And it respects their right to exist.
Let’s remember: freedom means protecting even the most voiceless among us.

As you might know Help Animals India suports all types of animals in India and Nepal! - birds, buffaloes, camels, cats, cows, dogs, donkeys, elephants , horses, monkeys and other wildlife. The needs and requests are overwhelming but each animal we reach is a significant help to overcome needless suffering!
These three little monkeys at Karuna Society for Animals and Nature didn't choose each other. Life brought them together through hardship, and now they've formed a family built entirely on need and comfort.
The smallest one was abandoned by his mother, raised as an orphan on bottle-feeding. He still sucks his fingers, a habit that stuck as a source of comfort and safety. His two companions are both differently abled, survivors of electrocution (by high wires). Their injuries left them unable to return to the wild, unable to live the lives monkeys are meant to live. But they're alive, and they're together.
They move through their days side by side: playing, exploring, resting, comforting one another. Their bond is quiet and instinctive. They groom each other, huddle together when they sleep, and navigate their world as a unit. They didn't have families before. Now they are each other's family.
With the help of Help Animals India, Karuna is giving them what they need: care, space, and time to heal. Soon they'll move to a larger enclosure where they can climb higher and explore more freely. It's not the wild, but it's the best outcome possible for monkeys who can't survive out there anymore.
Rehabilitation isn't always about release. Sometimes it's about giving animals who've been broken by circumstances beyond their control a life that's still worth living. These three have that now. They have safety, they have companionship, and they have a future that wasn't guaranteed when they first arrived.
A broken beginning doesn't have to mean a broken life. Sometimes, it just needs love and a second chance.

Here is yet another ambulance funded this time in Assam for our long time partner “Just Be Friendly”, it is especially important to help in this part of N.E. India which still is under threat of the horrendous dog meat trade. This is more than a vehicle it is also a treatment option for rescues, treating on the onspot injuries and even spay/neuter operations (dogs recover inside until ready for release and can be picked up by their caretakers).
We post to social media almost daily hope you can follow us there! Thanks for reading! We wish you all the best in your efforts to bring happiness and comfort to all!
