Climate change rescues, pigs, elephants, school children, and the AR conference (09/01/2017)

Greetings to all friends of animals,

As summer comes to an end, we have several exciting projects to share with you. As always-we continue to be inspired and amazed by the hard-working activists in India-who strive to help animals by whatever means necessary.

Floods Hit Assam - Just Be Friendly (JBF) saves animals!

There is no arguing that sporadic weather conditions are creating more storms every year. Once again, the northeast state of Assam was hit by massive floods. As the government helps to support care for the people-who will help the animals? Through a partnership with Help Animals India, A Well-Fed World, and Just Be Friendly (JBF), the dedicated rescue teams are stepping in to provide food, clean water, and vet care to as many animals of they can left devastated by the floods.

When Pigs Cry - why are pigs hated!

We were so moved to read of the recent pig rescues by Blue Cross of India - two horrendous situations lead to the rescue of over 48 pigs.

One situation was when “politicans” dragged pigs to make a point to humiliate their opponents. The unbelievable video is on our Facebook page.

The other situation involved an overloaded truck containing six times the number of pigs it should have, which then flipped over and the driver fled!  Read more and donate here or through our website and mention "pigs."  No one - animal or otherwise - should be treated this way!

Help us send as large a grant as we can by contributing to the pigs!

Two more elephants desperately need rescuing

WRRC/CUPA needs your help to rescue Mala and Shyla (names changed to protect their identity until rescue), two more elephants to add to the 5 already rescued elephants!

Mala has lived in a cell behind bars for 45 years and is continuously chained on concrete floors, where she displays severe psychological trauma, such as banging her head on the wall, swaying of the body, fatigue and depression. Shyla is obese, with severe foot rot, ankush (harsh tool for “training”) wounds and spends her life begging.

Donate here or through our website and mention "India's elephants"!

Vegan Meals Increase School Attendance!

Helping animals means also helping people! Through a partnership with Help Animals India, A Well-Fed World, and Grassroots Movement in Nepal (GMIN), GMIN is supplying healthy vegan food to poverty-stricken students in mountain villages of Nepal.  Not only were students fed nutritious meals (for some it may be their only meal of the day), but the project has the added benefit of increasing student attendance by 20%! Through this project we are excited to be helping children stay nourished, improving academic scores, and improving school attendance-as well as improving the local economy by purchasing local foods, and last but not least, helping animals by keeping them off the menu!  As holiday season approaches, if you’ve previously been inclined by animal gifting programs such as Heifer International, our Vegan Meals program is a perfect alternative-help children while also helping animals and local communities.

Animal Rights USA National Conference 2017

Along with tabling, Help Animals India board members also presented at this year’s Animal Rights National Conference, discussing our work as well as the plight of dairy cows and rising meat consumption in India.  We were happy to see a large crowd at the presentation (it was standing room only!) as well as thought-provoking questions. How exciting to see a rising interest in India’s animals!  Here is a link to the 30 minute audio-only presentation.

With love from Help Animals India — on behalf of India and Nepal's animals!
